Dear Client,

Greetings from Beacon!!!

As a part of our continuous communication we feel immense pleasure to keep you updated regarding your marine cargo policy. We would like to inform you about a recent fire incident on ZIM CHARLSTON.
ZIM CHARLESTON experienced a fire in cargo hold no. 4 whilst navigating off Colombo on 8 August 2022.

It was reported that approximately 300 containers may have been affected by the fire, heat, and smoke and water damage arising from the subsequent firefighting operations.

Please note that general average is a voluntary act to save ship and cargo from operation of perils during a voyage. In an effort to save ship and cargo there be various expenditure involved or some cargo may be thrown from ship to lighten it or various other expenses may be incurred . These expenses to be shared by all the cargo owner whose interest (Cargo) has been saved.

After incurring all these expenses and sacrifices, master of the ship exercises a lien over all the shipments. To get it released from shipping line, it is required to provide average bond, Average Guarantee from cargo insurer and counter guarantee form duly signed from cargo owner.

We at Beacon have already managed all these documentation process for 6 to 7 of our clients who have already intimated us. So we are fully aware of the process and have ensured smooth delivery of cargo for our clients.

Please make it sure that if any communication from your shipping line related to general average has been received by you, please let us know to take further action into this regard.
